Body identified
GUSTAVUS — Investigators have identified the man who was killed at an electrical substation Monday morning as Robert T. Eakin, 30, of Bristol Township.
Ohio Edison and police found Eakin’s body at the substation on Stoddard Hayes Road about 1:30 a.m. after power was knocked out to about 2,000 Ashtabula and Trumbull county residents.
He could not be immediately identified because of the severity of his burns.
Detective Michael Yannucci of the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Department said Tuesday the investigation into the fatality continues. Eakin is thought to have died while trying to steal copper at the substation.
Road project
LIBERTY — Goldie Road from Belmont Avenue to the entrance to Aldi’s in the plaza on Belmont Avenue is being widened and repaved to create a right-turn lane. Traffic will be maintained through the projected completion date of Aug. 19.
The road is being widened in anticipation of more traffic in this area because of the opening of Wal-Mart, whose projected opening is at the end of August.
The cost of the road project is $112,000. Pat Ungaro, Liberty Township administrator, said 35 percent of funds came from Wal-Mart and 55 percent from the state.
Some registrar offices will be closed Friday
COLUMBUS — There are a number of Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicle deputy registrar locations across the state that may be closed because of the July Fourth holiday.
While many agencies will be closed Friday, about 80 will be open around the state but may have limited hours. All agencies will be closed Saturday.
Customers should call ahead to their local deputy registrar to verify they are open Friday. A list of deputy registrar locations and phone numbers can be found online at: http://bmv.ohio.gov/county/cnty_lst.htm.
