19-year-old Pa. mom charged with smothering her baby

MEADVILLE, Pa. (AP) — A 19-year-old mother of three has been jailed on charges she killed her youngest child, a 4-month-old boy, by smothering him between two pillows in March.

Casey Ann Shay, of West Mead, was arrested Tuesday after Crawford County Coroner Patrick McHenry said the death of Aiden Brown was a homicide.

Authorities say Shay is unemployed and lived with her parents. She was jailed unable to post $150,000 bond and faces a preliminary hearing July 28 on criminal homicide, aggravated assault, and endangerment charges.

Police say the boy died at a hospital March 5 after Shay placed him face down on a pillow and held another pillow on top of the boy. Online court records do not list an attorney for Shay who has pleaded not guilty.
