Salem, Hubbard secure White Division victories


SALEM — The Salem High boys basketball team defeated Lakeview, 48-38, Friday to move into first place in the All-American Conference White standings.

Trent Toothman scored 14 points for the Quakers (9-4, 3-0). Geno Pasquinelli pulled down six rebounds.

The Bulldogs (10-4, 2-1) fell to second place, with Justin Clark scoring 11 points. Joel Davis grabbed eight rebounds.

Hubbard 70, Struthers 64

STRUTHERS — The Eagles connected on 23 of 35 free throws and held off a late rally by the Wildcats.

Kurtis Drummond led Hubbard (10-4, 2-1 AAC White) with 22 points while Bobby Thompson added 17 and Sam Bellino 13.

Nate Jacubec paced Struthers (4-10, 0-4) with 21 points and Adam Ryczaj added 16.

Howland 77, Beaver Local 54

YOUNGSTOWN — After a close first half, the Howland High boys team rolled 37-19 in the second half to prevail in the AAC Red game at the Chevrolet Centre.

The Tigers (9-4, 2-0), who share first place with Canfield, were led by Tyler Scott with 19 points.

Kyle Spence chipped in with 17 and Drew Guido finished with 11 as Howland had 10 players in the scoring column.

Travis Lynch scored a game-high 26 points for the winless Beavers (0-14, 0-2). Jake Lunders added 10.

Poland 78, Niles 48

POLAND — A 21-4 surge by Poland put the AAC Red game out of reach 51-35.

Niko Fatimus triggered the Bulldog (10-4, 2-1) attack with 23 points. David Baker chipped in with 12 and Ben Donlow finished with 11.

Ryan Frantz led the Red Dragons (4-10, 0-3) with 16 points. Nick Young had 11.
