Self Defense CCW class

DEERFIELD — Portage Summit Field & Stream will host its spring Self Defense CCW class at the clubs range and building, 8504 state Route 224, April 24-26.

This training class is a 20-hour training class that will teach the student self-defense shooting and Concealed Carry of Weapons. Any person intending to apply to the state of Ohio for a permit to carry a concealed weapon is required to show proof of a minimum of 12 hours training on CCW before a permit will be issued. This class meets all of the state requirements.

Self Defense goes beyond the basic requirements of the National Rifle Associations Basic Pistol training program. Upon completion of this program, the participant will have a good sound working knowledge of all aspects of self-defense in all walks of life.

This class is taught by retired police officer Sgt. Bruce Knodel of X Ring Shooting Instruction. Knodel is a lifelong competition shooter dating back to his military shooting of the 1950s through his last service as a certified police marksmanship instructor of the 1980’s. Knodel has attended training programs under instructors such as the Bill Jordan of Gun Sight Ranch and world-famous Massad Ayoob.

Students will complete the 12-hour NRA Basic Pistol course and then go on to spend an additional eight hours in actual self-defense shooting on the range. All range shooting is done under self-defense tactical shooting methods, positions and styles.

There is a $100 fee for the class that includes all training materials except ammunition. Registration is limited to 10 students per class, so early registration is almost a must. Interested parties should send a self-addressed stamped envelope to All Outdoors, 1404 Warren Road, Newton Falls, Ohio 44444-9751 for a detailed brochure explaining the class details.
