staff report

YOUNGSTOWN — A local man is being held in Mahoning County Jail, charged with assault after police say he intentionally ran down another man with his van.

According to police reports, Donald Harshbarger, 49, of Osborne Street, was at Mahoning Valley Lanes on Mahoning Avenue at 3:35 p.m. Friday when he began arguing with another man about a $10 debt he was owed. The man, witnesses told police, gave Harshbarger a $20 bill, but Harshbarger refused to make change and was ultimately asked to leave the business.

The man who had been arguing with Harshbarger left the business a short time later and was run down by Harshbarger, reports said.

Harshbarger, reports said, also struck the side of the business before fleeing. He was arrested a short time later at his home.

The stricken man was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center for treatment.
