Doors for the event will open at 6 p.m. and races will begin at 7. The donation is $5 at the door and includes a chance to win one of several door prizes.

In addition to the horse races, patrons will have the opportunity to try their skills at maverick poker, blackjack, a 50-50 raffle, a lottery ticket raffle, and a Chinese auction. There will also be door prizes and a cash bar.

Sold during the evening will be pizza, hot dogs, sloppy joes, coffee, and baked goods.

Funds allocated

All proceeds from the event, and other fundraisers held throughout the year, will directly benefit the animals saved by the Second Chance Animal Rescue.

Organized Jan. 2, 2000, Second Chance deals mainly with cats and kittens. During the past eight years, through the generosity of donors and support of members, the group has rescued more than 2,100 animals and placed many of them in loving, responsible homes. The all-volunteer organization presently has approximately 100 cats available for adoption. There is an adoption fee of $95, which includes spaying or neutering, first shots, and other basic care. For information about adopting an animal, call the shelter at (330) 505-3575, or visit www.secondchanceanimalrescue.org, where pictures of all the cats can be seen.
