Salem folks recall glory days of Timberlanes

SALEM — Mayor Jerry Wolford said he hopes that someone will buy the Timberlanes.

He spoke today for many throughout the Mahoning Valley when he added, “I’m sorry to see they were closed up.”

The Timberlanes shut down with no advance warning on Thursday. A sign on the door of the combination of restaurant, hotel, and bar read, “We Are Closed. Thank You For Your Patronage.”

For decades, the Timberlanes drew hundreds of customers. Political rallies, meetings of all sorts, and private parties took place at the facility.

Columbiana County Prosecutor Robert Herron said, “It’s a blow to the community.”

People went to Timberlanes for drinks or dinner or to wait for results on election night, he added. Herron said of the closing, “There’s a sense of loss to the community.”
