Lottery replaces winter whiteout with green for these guys

YOUNGSTOWN — Two Valley residents are seeing green despite the winter whiteouts. Timothy Wires of Cortland and Christina VonGuten of Girard were winners in games from state lotteries earlier this week.

Wires won $10,000 on Mega Millions for matching four numbers and the Mega ball in the Jan. 23 drawing. He purchased his ticket from Sheetz on Elm Road in Warren. VonGuten won $100,000 on the Kicker number of her Jan. 23 ticket. Her ticket was purchased from Uni-Mart in Niles.

They were required to pay 31 percent of their earnings in state and federal taxes. After the deductions, Wires took home $6,900 and VonGuten pocketed $69,000.
