Kelsey McGregor sets mark in Falls’ win over Brookfield


The senior set the school’s record for points with 1,048, surpassing the 1,047 from Desiree Sterling.

BROOKFIELD — Kelsey McGregor became Newton Falls’ all-time leading girls’ scorer as the senior forward finished with 23 points in the Tigers’ 50-33 win over Brookfield Thursday night.

McGregor, who now has 1,048 points, surpassed the 1,047 established by Desiree Sterling.

McGregor has 307 points so far this season.

Against Brookfield, she was 13-of-14 at the free throw line for the Tigers (12-3, 6-0 All-American Conference Blue Tier), who are on a five-game win streak.

Kodi Brenner had 17 points and Paige Wallace had seven rebounds to pace Brookfield (5-5, 2-3).

Boardman 33, Mass. Jackson 27

MASSILLON — In a tight defensive game, Boardman held Jackson without a basket in the first quarter and went on to defeat the Polar Bears in a Federal League game.

Jackson didn’t score a basket until 4 minutes, 30 seconds remaining in the half and by that time Boardman was ahead 17-6.

Jackson managed to outscore Boardman 21-16 in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to catch up.

Darryce Moore scored a game-high 23 points for the Spartans (11-4, 5-1) who are in second place in the Federal League standings. Boardman visits Uniontown Lake (4-2 FL) Saturday, with the No. 2 seed for the league tournament going to the winner.

Courtney Armsey paced the Polar Bears (11-4, 3-3) with nine points.

Canton McKinley is in first place in the Federal League with a 6-0 record.

Hubbard 49, Lakeview 22

YOUNGSTOWN — Brittany Bullock, a 5-foot-8 senior, scored 22 points, including two 3-point goals, and had seven steals to lead Hubbard in the first game of a doubleheader at the Chevrolet Centre.

Allie DeLuco contributed seven rebounds, four points and three assists to aid the Eagles (6-10, 2-3 All-American Conference White Tier).

Hubbard had eight players in the scoring column, and led the entire game, including 20-14 at the half.

Jessica Downs managed seven points and six rebounds to lead Lakeview (4-11, 1-4), which made only 8-for-34 from the field.

Springfield 54, Columbiana 46

NEW MIDDLETOWN — Andria Lyons scored 21 points and Rachael Kennedy added 14 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Tigers (7-9, 4-7 ITCL Tier One), who were able to overcome a rough shooting night at the foul line, hitting just 11-of-24.

Columbiana (9-6, 5-4) was led by Katie Witmer, who had 18 points and 10 rebounds.

South Range 33, East Palestine 28

EAST PALESTINE — Gabby Naples scored seven points to lead a balanced scoring attack for the Raiders (10-6, 5-5 ITCL Tier One), who led 27-17 entering the final quarter.

Becky Bollinger had nine points for the Bulldogs (3-11, 1-8), while Bre Hall had seven rebounds.

Leetonia 54, Jackson-Milton 41

NORTH JACKSON — Gina Jones scored 22 points, making four 3-pointers, and Clarissa Perkins added 15 for the Bears (8-7, 6-3) in an ITCL Tier Two game.

Lynsie Davis finished with six points and six rebounds for Leetonia, which led 37-15 at halftime.

Alyssa Chine made two 3-pointers and scored 18 points to lead Jackson-Milton (0-15, 0-10).

Katie Santor added nine points and Maddie Griffiths finished with five rebounds.
