Greenville Orchestra sets concert with barbershoppers


GREENVILLE, Pa. — The Greenville Symphony Orchestra will be joined by the Penn-Ohio Singers for its second concert of the season, which will be a tribute to musicals.

The concert will be at 3 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Passavant Center on the campus of Thiel College.

The Penn-Ohio Singers have been singing in the barbershop style for nearly three decades.

Michael Gelfand is music director of the GSO.

The concert will include music ranging from Disney and cartoon favorites to “2001: A Space Odyssey,” “Wicked,” “Ragtime” and “Les Miserables.”

In a special medley titled “Summertime in the Park,” the Penn-Ohio Singers will sing “Good Old Summertime,” “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” and “You’re a Grand Old Flag.”

The second half of the program will be a tribute to Louis Armstrong, along with music from the movie “Chicago.”

The Penn-Ohio Singers will return to contribute to the “Music Man Medley.”

Tickets are $15 at the door ($13 for senior citizens; free for children and students).

Parking is free.
