‘Wear Red Day’ to help fight heart disease

YOUNGSTOWN — Feb. 6 is the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women “Wear Red Day.” The Go Red for Women movement is a nationwide effort to wipe out heart disease by wearing red to raise awareness. Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women.

More than 10,000 companies all over the country participate in Wear Red Day, and many cities illuminate monuments, landmarks and major buildings in red to show support for the fight against heart disease.

Thanks to the participation of millions of people, the color red and the red dress have become linked with creating awareness of heart disease in women.

Go Red For Women challenges women to discover their personal heart health risk by taking the online Go Red Heart Checkup at goredforwomen.org.
