Prize-winning poet at reading series

YOUNGSTOWN — Poet and Youngstown native Nancy Krygowski will appear at the Ytown Reading Series at 7 p.m. Monday at Dorian Books, 802 Elm St. An open mic night will follow Krygowski’s reading. The event is free and open to the public, whether as a listener or a prospective reader.

Krygowski’s debut collection, SDLqVelocity,SDRq won the 2006 Agnes Lynch Starrett Poetry Prize for a first full-length book of poetry. The poems in her book “use a sister’s death as a touchstone, dwelling in the overlap of emotions,” said Krygowski. “Loss touches happiness, desire touches fear, love touches futile knowing.”

Krygowski, a resident of Pittsburgh, is assistant artistic director of the Gist Street Reading Series and an instructor for the Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council. Her work has appeared in Prairie Schooner, River Styx, Southern Poetry Review, 5 A.M. and other magazines.
