Weathersfield is expected to name a new fiscal officer today.

MINERAL RIDGE — Weathersfield Township trustees will advertise for applicants to fill a trustee’s post left vacant by the Jan. 20 resignation of Fred Bobovnyk.

The 12-year trustee is in the final year of his four-year term. He resigned to apply for the position of township fiscal officer, which will be left vacant with the resignation of David Rouan, effective Feb. 2.

Trustee Chairman James Stoddard said Tuesday trustees will advertise for the position of trustee, and the board has 30 days to name a replacement.

To date, former trustees Marvin McBride, James Price and James Pirko, who is township grants coordinator, have submitted written applications for the post, which pays $12,346 a year.

The fiscal officer position pays $21,216 a year, an amount set by the state based on the township’s budget.

Applicants for the fiscal officer position who met a Jan. 20 deadline included an original five applicants, two of whom were disqualified because they were not township residents. Another, Pirko, withdrew to bid on the trustee position.

The two remaining applicants are Bobovnyk and former township zoning commission member Richard Harkins. Stoddard said trustees will consider anyone else interested in the position.

The part-time position is an appointment and trustees did not even have to advertise for applicants, Stoddard said.

To be eligible to be a township trustee, a person must be 18 years of age, a township resident and eligible to vote.

The trustee chairman said he expects trustees will name a new fiscal officer at a special meeting at 7 p.m. today, and advertise for applicants for the trustee position to name a successor to Bobovnyk in 30 days.
