TOLEDO — A new scholarship program offered last fall by the University of Toledo to financially challenged students in Ohio’s six largest public school districts has been expanded to include students from Youngstown and Warren.

The UT Guarantee offered academically prepared but financially troubled students 100-percent-free tuition and fees.

Toledo, Akron, Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Dayton were the original focal points of the program but it has been expanded to all of Ohio’s 21 urban centers. Youngstown and Warren are on that list.

“That means thousands of additional students will be eligible to benefit from the UT Guarantee, from the most under-represented portions of our state,” said Lloyd Jacobs, university president.

“We believe this scholarship will not only help us attract high-quality students, but also help us improve diversity at The University of Toledo. This will help our recruitment efforts in areas of the state that are all-too-often left behind by higher education,” he said.

The UT Guarantee program is good for all four years, as long as its recipients maintain a 3.0 grade-point-average, complete 30 credit hours each school year, and file a FAFSA annually.

Students attending the public school districts in the Urban 21 can attend Toledo without paying for tuition or general fees, if they meet these eligibility requirements:

- Apply for admission by April 1, 2009.

- File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by April 1, 2009.

- Display any eligibility for a Pell Grant.

- Have a minimum high school grade-point-average of 3.0.
