Strange behavior lands man in jail
staff report
YOUNGSTOWN — A man with knives who employees at McDonald’s on Market Street said was taking off his clothes and acting strange had to be wrestled to the floor by police.
Delano J. Conklin, 22, of Anoka Drive, was arrested Sunday morning on charges of aggravated menacing and resisting arrest. He was taken to the Mahoning County jail pending arraignment today in municipal court.
First officers on the scene at the fast-food restaurant saw Conklin in a corner and heard employees yell that he was “going nuts” and talking to himself. Conklin was ordered at gunpoint to get on the floor but he became combative and had to be overpowered by police, reports show.
After Conklin was handcuffed, police found two knives where he had been sitting and placed the weapons in an evidence bag.
The manager and employees told police they feared for their customers’ safety as well as their own. They said Conklin started to remove his clothes and swing the knives.
The McDonald’s workers said police arrived quickly and handled the situation before anyone could be hurt.
Police said a domestic violence report against Conklin was filed Jan. 14. No further information on that charge was immediately available.
