Local topics on TV - Sunday programs


“Community Connection” (6:30 a.m., WFMJ Channel 21): Inspiring Minds Inc., a local youth initiative, will hold its celebratory community banquet in February. Founder and former Indianapolis Colts football player Deryck Toles will join host Madonna Chism Pinkard to discuss the event and update the community on the organization’s efforts.

Next, Dawud Abdullah, Student Advisory Board coordinator with the Youngstown city schools, and Amy Neral, community relations manager with Barnes & Noble Booksellers, will discuss the third annual African-American Read-In, to promote literacy and contributions of black authors. The event, which will take place Feb. 1, is free and open to the public.

Finally, Mahoning County Auditor Mike Sciortino will discuss the upcoming community financial workshop, County Finance 101, in conjunction with the YSU Metro College. The workshop will inform citizens on how county finance is administered and educate on the purpose of taxes.
