Interfaith tea planned

BOARDMAN — Youngstown Diocesan Council of Catholic Women will hold an interfaith tea at 1 p.m. Feb. 3 at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 7345 Westview Drive. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Edward Brienz, associate pastor of St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown.

GriefShare sessions

NEW WATERFORD — Abundant Life Fellowship will begin offering weekly GriefShare meetings starting Feb. 3 at the church, 46469 state Route 46.

Betty Welker and Jay Radman will lead sessions from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Gold Room and are open to anybody who is dealing with old, new or recurring grief issues. The weekly gatherings are a follow-up to a one-day holiday GriefShare seminar in December.

‘Expelled’ video set

MCDONALD — The First Baptist Church of McDonald, 602 Illinois Ave., will present the video “Expelled” at 5 p.m. Sunday. The video poses questions about scientific evidence for God, evolution and education. The event is free.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

CANFIELD — Prayer Shawl Ministry will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Ursuline Motherhouse, 4250 Shields Road. Usually, the group meets the third Tuesday of the month, but the date was changed because of the presidential inauguration. An evening group meets from 6:30 to 8 p.m. the third Wednesday; both groups meet in parlors at the motherhouse.

All are welcome to be part of this ecumenical ministry. Knitters should use No. 11 or 13 circular needle, and those who crochet, a No. 11 or larger size hook. Church to host art event

HERMITAGE, Pa. — “Art Under the Dome” is planned from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 13 at Valley Church, 1957 Pine Hollow Blvd. The event will feature some 20 local artists and explore the intersection of art and the church.

Bishop to speak

HERMITAGE, Pa. — Bishop Jim Erb, overseer of Antioch International Ministries, will minister at a service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Living Word Church, 1109 E. State St.

Program rescheduled

YOUNGSTOWN — A program, “Domestic Violence and the Religious Community,” originally scheduled for today, has been rescheduled because of the death of Kim Sullivan, a judicial advocate for the Sojourner House. The program will be from 8 a.m. to noon Jan. 31 in the Jones Room of Kilcawley Center at Youngstown State University. Sponsor is Essence of Weaponry in Campbell.

Book discussion

HERMITAGE, Pa. — St. Paul United Church of Christ, 159 Tod Ave., will hold a discussion session March 1 on Anne Rice’s best-seller, “Christ the Lord Out of Egypt.” The book is faithful to the Gospel accounts and told in the first-person by the child Jesus. Rice also tells of her return to the Christian faith.

Guest speaker

EAST PALESTINE — The Rev. John Sharick will be guest speaker at the worship service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at First United Presbyterian Church, 109 W. Rebecca St. He served 28 years as the executive of the regional Eastminster Presbytery and is on the adjunct faculty at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary Doctor of Ministry program.

Mission trip to Russia

CANFIELD — The Rev. Kathryn Adams will lead a volunteer-in-mission trip July 27-Aug. 10 to the Dmitrov orphanage near Moscow, Russia. The team will live and work in an orphanage for 70 physically handicapped children, ages 5 through 20, deliver supplies and gifts, and buy needed items for the children and the orphanage.

YOUNGSTOWN — Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 505 Parkcliffe Ave., will present King’s Dominion & Friends, directed by Margaret Rainey and Reggie Smith, in a concert at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Also featured will be Cordell Hampton of Farrell, Pa.

Featured speaker

BOARDMAN — Mary B. Smith of Youngstown will be the featured speaker at Laity Sunday at 10:30 a.m. this weekend at Disciples Christian Church, 565 Boardman-Canfield Road.

She is known for her lifetime of service to the community and to Youngstown State University. She is a past president of Youngstown Federation of Women’s Clubs, YWCA and Park Vista Retirement Community Board. She has served on the boards of the American Association of University Women, the League of Women Voters and Protestant Campus Ministry.

Program offered for Catholic parents

CANFIELD — Faithful Parenting is a three-part series offering practical advice for Catholic parents. James Merhaut, president of Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center in Villa Maria, Pa., will be the presenter. He authored a book for young parents who want to understand and nurture the faith development of their children.

Sessions will be: “Faith Development in Children” on March 19; “The Parents’ Role in Faith Development,” March 26; and “Building a Household of Faith,” on April 2. All sessions are scheduled from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Ursuline Center, 4280 Shields Road.
