“Prayers for Bobby” (9 p.m., Lifetime): Sigourney Weaver marks her first performance in a made-for-TV film as she stars in Lifetime’s “Prayers for Bobby.” Based on a true story and the book of the same name, the film tells the story of Mary Griffith, a devoutly religious wife and mother in circa-1970s California who begins to question her faith after the suicide of her gay son. Bobby’s father and siblings had come to terms with his admission of his homosexuality. But Mary turned to her steadfast beliefs in an attempt to “cure” her son, who, increasingly depressed by her disapproval, kills himself. Ultimately, Mary draws strength and comfort from the gay community and becomes an advocate for gay rights. The film also stars Ryan Kelley (“Mean Creek”), Henry Czerny (“The Tudors”), Austin Nichols (“John from Cincinnati”), Dan Butler (“Frasier”), Scott Bailey (“Guiding Light”) and Susan Ruttan (“L.A. Law”).
U.S. Figure Skating Championships (9 p.m., NBC): The women’s final airs tonight from the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Cleveland. We still don’t know a double axel from a camel spin, but we’re mesmerized by all those pretty little sequins.
