GM Lordstown to one shift by April 6?

LORDSTOWN — General Motors Lordstown has reportedly said it wants to go from two shifts to one at its assembly plant, effective April 6.

United Autoworkers Local 1112 Shop Chairman Ben Strickland said while it is true GM wants to eliminate a shift, how it will be accomplished is still up in the air. Local 1112 represents hourly workers at the assembly plant.

“We are in discussions with management today and more meetings are planned for Monday. There is nothing confirmed. We are still miles apart on how we’re going to do it, although any layoffs will be done according to seniority,” Strickland said.

A lot of the rumors and media reports circulating for the past week may end up not being true, he said.
