East Palestine classmates will be model fundraisers

EAST PALESTINE — Although she’s never aspired to being a model, Chelsea Stewart said she has no problem walking down the runway for a good cause.

Especially a cause so close to home. This weekend the 16-year-old junior at East Palestine High School will join 24 of her classmates when they model dresses during the district’s first prom fashion show.

“It’s almost like a dress rehearsal for the actual prom,” Chelsea said. “We’ll be able to wear the dresses and get our hair done and everything.”

Her mom, Beth Stewart, helped organize the event to raise money for the prom. She’s hoping to generate at least $1,000.

“The class didn’t have a lot of money for the prom this year and we thought this would be something different, so we decided to try it,” Beth Stewart explained.

The show will run from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the high school auditorium at 360 W. Grant St. Admission is $3.

Vendors, including florists, hair stylists and photographers, will be on hand to discuss their services. Food and refreshments will be available.

Models and attendees will be offered discounts on various gowns. Also, used prom dresses that have been donated will be sold. The class will keep $5 from the sale of each dress and the remainder of the profit will go to the person who donated the dress. Anyone who has old prom or bridesmaid dresses they would like to sell at the show, contact Beth Stewart at (330) 426-6060.
