Unite behind our president

Unite behind our president

EDITOR:

I am compelled to write as a person who witnessed history Tuesday as America swore in the first black President of the United States. But more than the color of his skin, is the hope of a nation on his shoulders almost immediately.

As a life long Republican, I supported John McCain. I disagree with many of the principles of President Obama, yet today I publicly announce my heartfelt support for this man. The election is over. My guy lost. As an American, I know President Obama is the president of all the people, including myself and my family. This has been true for every president in my lifetime. Yet there are those who are starting to look for the “loose threads” in the fabric of this presidency in order to unravel all the possible good that may come from this man. I ask all Americans to quit doing anything to harm the possibilities that lie before all of us.

President Obama is not God, nor should we heap undue praise and worship on him. But he deserves our respect, loyalty, and support in this nearly impossible job that he has assumed. As a patriotic American, I promise to support President Obama, respect him and the office he holds, but call attention to those things that I fundamentally feel are wrong. This is the American way, and he deserves a chance to be what all of us are hoping for.

He will make mistakes, this will not make him incompetent. He may have to go back on some of the rhetoric of the election now that the reality of his office faces him. This will not make him a liar. He will be embraced by some of our friends, and hated by our enemies. But ultimately, history will judge him, not us. And he will not be judged for what happens in the first few weeks of his presidency.

Pray to God that he is successful. President Obama is not our enemy. Let us save our outrage for those that would try to bring down this country and all of us. Again, I may not agree with all he stands for, and I did not vote for him, but by God, I will support and defend him and the great office of the president of the United States for as long as he serves the majority of this country. Even if I am not in that majority. I ask all of us as citizens to do the same. Put away the claws of hatred and give him a chance to continue the legacy of the greatest nation in the history of this planet. God Bless and keep President Obama, and God Bless the United States of America.

Pay attention to the law

EDITOR:

It has been my observation for many years that the majority of automobile drivers are not aware that it is against the law to enter any freeway when there is traffic in the lane they are about to enter.

Evidently, most drivers do not understand exactly what “yield” means. It is so aggravating when you are driving on state Route 11 or Interstate 80 or 680 with another automobile next to you and here comes someone speeding into the drivers lane without yielding, slowing or stopping.

Drivers, please learn the law.
