Vaughn ends season, could get redshirt
YOUNGSTOWN — Injuries have ended the season of YSU senior Velissa Vaughn.
Vaughn, a 5-7 guard from Clairton, Pa., has yet to dress for a game this season.
“It’s probably been one of the toughest decisions that I’ve ever had to make,” Vaughn said.
YSU coach Cindy Martin praised her senior who has been to every practice and every game this year and has helped the team’s younger players.
“I’ve never got to see Velissa play live since I’ve been here and I know the problems that she has been going through, but she’s been there every day to help in any way she can,” Martin said.
By forgoing the rest of her season she will probably be eligible to apply for a medical redshirt with the option of returning next season, Martin said.
“I’d really love to coach her again next season,” she said.
Vaughn said she has enjoyed her time at YSU and is on schedule to graduate.
