NILES — Trumbull County Women’s History Committee will host a scholarship dinner March 24 at Ciminero’s Banquet Center.

Special guest will be Karen Vuranch of Fayetteville, W.Va., who will bring gourmet chef Julia Child to life in a one-woman performance.

In the 1960s, Child brought her love of French cooking to the American public, becoming the icon of gourmet cooking who wished viewers “Bon app tit!” from the kitchen counter on the set of her television show. She died two days before her 92nd birthday in 2004.

Vuranch is a storyteller, actress, historian and writer. Using historical research, she creates characters that bring history to life.

In addition to the performance as Child, Vuranch is well-known for other portrayals of women in history, including Pearl Buck, Clara Barton, Mother Jones, Mary Draper Ingles, Irish pirate Grace O’Malley and Wild West outlaw Belle Starr. Vuranch has written two plays about women in history: “Coal Camp Memories,” about life in the West Virginia coalfields, and “Homefront,” about women in World War II.

Also an acclaimed storyteller, she performs for more than 200 schools, colleges, libraries and conferences each year.
