The city also plans extensive sidewalk replacement and to increase its road resurfacing program this year:

Deemed the North Mecca sidewalk project, the pedestrian walkway spanning the street between West Main Street and Sunset Drive will be replaced at a cost of $275,000.

Twenty percent of the project will come from the city, with the other 80 percent funded by the federal Transportation Enhancement Activities fund.

The city’s annual road resurfacing program will increase the number of slated projects to six. The city has budgeted $300,000 to repave a collective 3-mile stretch of roads, or 400,000 square feet. The plans will be finalized in late summer when up-to-date asphalt prices will determine a more accurate surface area for the work.
