Focus on Gaza situation

YOUNGSTOWN — The Save Gaza Committee will join in the National Day of Action in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. A panel, slide show and discussion are planned at 7:30 p.m. today at the Arab Community Center, 15 Belgrade Ave., and will focus on the conflict in Gaza.

Low-income families to get help to feed pets

NILES — Pet food donations are being accepted at several veterinarian offices, as well as Pet Supplies Plus locations, in Trumbull County to help low-income families unable to feed their animals.

Mahoning Valley residents are encouraged to participate in the pet food drive, which will end tonight at Pet Supplies Plus in Niles’ Eastwood Mall. A volunteer from the Animal Welfare League will be on hand today to accept donations and provide information on adoptable pets. Bagged, canned and boxed pet food, as well as treats and monetary donations, will be accepted.

Volunteers may contact their local veterinarian’s office to see if they’re participating in the drive. For more information, contact organizer Bev Spicer at (330) 545-6296.

Wine event will offer a Taste of Elegance

GIRARD — The third annual Taste of Elegance, a celebration of winter with a winter wine tasting, will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 15 in Rosetta Hall at St. Rose Church, 48 E. Main St.

The cost is $45 per person, and the event is limited to 120 tickets, available at the rectory.

Finger foods and wine tasting will be catered by Alberini’s Restaurant. Semiformal attire is required.

Free gun locks available

NEW MIDDLETOWN — Police Chief Vince D’Egidio announced that free gun locks are available to all, not just village residents, at the village police department.

The locks, which secure guns so they cannot be fired, were provided by Operation Child Safe, a national program to keep firearms out of the hands of children. Village offices are open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.
