Inauguration coverage

Inauguration coverage

For more than 200 years, America’s citizens have witnessed the inauguration ceremonies of the president of the United States. From the first inauguration of George Washington in 1789 in New York City through this, our 56th, Americans have celebrated the continuity of leadership and the peaceful transfer of power.

For this historic inaugural of the nation’s first black president, concerts and other events start today, leading up to the swearing-in at noon Tuesday. Mahoning Valley residents will be at the ceremony, the parade afterward, and even at the glitzy balls that end the day. The Vindicator will be there to capture those moments.

Also, today and for the next three days, The Vindicator and Vindy.com will bring you these commemorative editions, dedicated to the dawning of this era of change, and including online photo galleries and videos, and letters to the new president from the Valley’s children:

kTODAY: Candidate Obama left an impression on the Valley and its citizens during his visits here last year.

kMONDAY: The Rev. Lonnie A. Simon of Campbell describes his participation in the 1963 march on Washington before MLK’s historic speech, and how that has led to the upcoming inauguration.

kTUESDAY: A commemorative front-page poster.

kWEDNESDAY: Local inauguration coverage and details of the day.
