SUNRISE, Fla. — Simon Gagne scored the only goal in the shootout, and Antero Nittymaki stopped all three Florida shooters in Philadelphia’s 3-2 victory. Nittymaki ended the shootout when he blocked Nathan Horton’s wrist shot. Ville Peltonen and Michael Frolik also failed to score for Florida in the shootout. Jeff Carter also scored in regulation for the Flyers, who had lost their last two. It was Philadelphia’s NHL-high 17th overtime game of the season. Bryan McCabe and Jay Bouwmeester scored power-play goals for the Panthers.
Thrashers 4, Maple Leafs 3, OT
ATLANTA — Rich Peverley scored with 1:09 left in overtime to give Atlanta a comeback victory over Toronto. The Thrashers ended a two-game losing streak and won for only the third time in 11 games. Atlanta also won for only the third time in its last 15 games at home (3-10-2). Toronto, which blew a 3-0 first-period lead, lost for the fifth time in six games. Atlanta tied it at 3 with 4:53 left in regulation on Ilya Kovalchuk’s second goal of the game and 18th of the season. He scored off a perfect pass from Peverley.
