‘Impressions

at the Butler’

World premiere

The Youngstown Symphony Orchestra will perform the world premiere of Gregory Prechel’s “Impressions at the Butler,” which sets to music works of art from the collection of the Butler Institute of American Art. The 25-minute composition is broken down into eight movements (artist’s name in parenthesis):

1. Introduction/“Lincoln the Railsplitter” (Norman Rockwell)

2. “Snap the Whip” (Winslow Homer)

3. “Late Winter Radiance” (Charles Burchfield)

4. “American West” (from the American West collection, including “The Oregon Trail” and “Bridal Veil Falls” (Albert Bierstadt and many Native American pieces)

5. “Lightpainting” (Stephen Knapp)

6. Landscape and Industry (from the Butler’s narrative landscape pieces, as they progress from natural landscapes to influences from industry)

7. “Youngstown Strike” (William Gropper)

8. Finale/“Radiance Of The Butler Institute”
