Trustees OK pay raises for several employees

NEW SPRINGFIELD — Two unpaid positions became paid and several employees received raises when Springfield Township trustees met recently for their annual reorganization meeting.
Three percent increases were given to four positions. Their new rates are part-time fire chief, $772.50 per month; Emergency Medical Services coordinator, $721 monthly; EMS Office Maintenance, $9.55 hourly; and recycling coordinator, $9.55 hourly.
The assistant fire chief and lead fire inspector positions, which were previously unpaid, will now be paid $400 and $100 per month, respectively.
Wage rates for the police and road department employees will be set once their Teamsters Local 377 contract negotiations are complete.
Trustees also increased pay-per-call rates for EMS personnel per transported trip. The new rates are first responder, $15.14; basic, $17.80; intermediate, $19.90; and paramedic, $22.26. The first-responder increase is 3 percent, and the other three are 6 percent increases over 2008.
Trustees also set a $50 monthly cell phone stipend for road Superintendent Rich Kennedy, assistant road Superintendent Eric Mace, Police Chief Matthew Mohn, Detective Michael Tablack, Juvenile Diversion Officer Aimee Schweers, Fire Chief Matt Gebhardt, and EMS Coordinator Karen Philibin.
The reimbursement for township employees and volunteers was raised to 50 cents per mile for township volunteers and employees. It was formerly 48.5 cents.
Trustee Robert Orr was named chairman and Gerald Guterba vice chairman for 2009. The third trustee is Rick Jones. Regular meetings will continue to be at 8 p.m. the second Wednesday of the month.
