Penguins’ men fall hard in Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Tone Boyle scored 18 points and Deonte Roberts 12 as Wisconsin-Milwaukee defeated Youngstown State, 69-50, in a Horizon League game Thursday night.
The Panthers (11-6, 6-1) have won eight of their last 10 games.
The Penguins (5-11, 2-5) lost for the third time in four outings.
Sirlester Martin scored 12 points for Youngstown State.
Kelvin Bright, who was averaging 15.3 points, had only 3 points and committed five turnovers.
Milwaukee led 32-22 at the half. The closest the Penguins got in the second period was 36-28 on a basket by Mays.
The Penguins struggled mightily shooting the ball, making just 27 percent from the field (17 of 62) and 3 of 14 from beyond the arc (21 percent).
DeAndre Mays scored 11 points on 5-of-13 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds, while Martin grabbed 12 rebounds.
Milwaukee wasn’t red-hot, either, but it did manage to shoot 44 percent from the field in the second half as it outscored the Penguins 37-28 to put the game away.
The Penguins continue their two-game road trip against Green Bay on Saturday at 8:05 p.m.
Wis-Green Bay 80, Cleveland St 65
GREEN BAY, Wis. — Ryan Tillema scored 19 points to lead Wisconsin-Green Bay past Cleveland State.
Green Bay held the Vikings to one field goal during a pivotal eight-minute stretch of the second half to pull away.
Nathan Bullock’s basket in the lane brought the Vikings within 56-52, but the Phoenix pulled away by scoring 20 of the next 28 points to take a commanding 76-60 lead.
Green Bay (12-5, 5-1) also got 17 points from Rahmon Fletcher, en route to its sixth win in seven games.
The Vikings (13-6, 4-3) were powered by Bullock and Cedric Jackson, who scored 40 of the team’s first 52 points, including 20 in a row spanning the halves.
Bullock led the Vikings with 22 points and Jackson had 21.
