Panhellenic Association offers a scholarship

YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown Panhellenic Association is offering a $1,500 scholarship for the 2009-2010 school year to an undergraduate who is an active member of a national Panhellenic conference sorority.

Each applicant must be a full-time sophomore, junior or nongraduating senior woman who lives in Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana county. The award is based on scholarship, financial need, leadership and sorority participation, and is paid directly to the financial affairs office at the university.

AARP 3104 officers

CANFIELD — Canfield Chapter 3104, AARP, installed officers on Jan. 5 at Canfield Presbyterian Church.

Wine taste fundraiser will provide scholarships

NILES — “Splendor in the Glass,” a wine-tasting spectacular, has been scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Feb. 22 at Alberini’s Restaurant as a fundraiser for the Richard Alberini Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The event is sponsored by the Youngstown Air Reserve Station Base Community Council in conjunction with Youngstown State University and the Alberini family.

There will be an array of hors d’oeuvres and wines, a silent auction, a raffle and entertainment.

Proceeds go to an endowment that will provide two $2,500 scholarships annually for 910th Airlift Wing members or family members to attend Youngstown State University. Last year the scholarships were awarded to Charlethea J. Francis and Nathan M. Ciavarella.

Dinner marks birth of Scottish poet

POLAND — The annual Robert Burns dinner will be at 6 p.m. Jan. 24 at Poland Presbyterian Church, 2 Poland Manor.

The event marks the 250th anniversary of the birth of the famous Scottish poet and will include a traditional Scottish dinner and entertainment by The MacCallum Highlanders Tribute Band, the McConnell Scottish Dancers and soloist Colleen McNally-Harris.
