Naomi Campbell settles lawsuit filed by ex-maid
NEW YORK — Naomi Campbell has ended her legal tussle with a former maid who accused the supermodel of hitting her and calling her names.
Terms of the settlement are confidential, but a lawyer for the 38-year-old Campbell says both sides were pleased with the outcome.
A lawyer for Gaby Gibson, who worked for Campbell from November 2005 through January 2006, didn’t immediately return a message asking for comment.
Gibson claimed in her lawsuit, filed in Manhattan, that the British catwalker also threatened to charge her with theft after being unable to find a pair of designer jeans.
Campbell denied the claims. She was never charged with any crime in the incident Gibson alleged.
Steve Carell purchases town’s general store
MARSHFIELD, Mass. — Steve Carell is going from “The Office” to a general store.
Carell, who plays bumbling boss Michael Scott on the NBC sitcom, recently bought the Marshfield Hills General Store. The 45-year-old actor is a part-time resident of the town on Massachusetts’ south shore.
He put sister-in-law Tish Vivado in charge.
The store’s previous owner, Sherry Bechtold, told The Patriot-Ledger of Quincy that she and her husband, Bob, sold the 155-year-old building and business to Carell after being convinced that he wanted it “for the right reasons.” She said she wanted to make sure the new owner retained the store’s character.
Bechtold said Carell was at the building inspection in November.
Vivado took over as store manager on Jan. 1.

‘Les Folies Bergere’ ends run after 49 years
LAS VEGAS — The topless revue “Les Folies Bergere” is hanging up its feathers after 49 years at the Tropicana hotel-casino.
Casino executives announced Thursday that the show will close March 28 to make room for an undisclosed new production.
The closing will leave Bally’s “Jubilee!” as the last full-scale showgirl revue left on the Las Vegas Strip.
Showgirl productions have fallen out of favor with Cirque du Soleil dominating entertainment on the Strip in recent years.
“Folies” came from Paris in 1959 and opened under then-Tropicana entertainment director Lou Walters, the father of newswoman Barbara Walters.
Tropicana President Ron Thacker doesn’t explain the decision in a statement. He says the casino is “extremely proud to have been part of such an iconic Las Vegas production.”
John Mayer is in line to host variety show
UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. — CBS is close to a deal with pop star John Mayer for a music and variety TV show.
CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler told a meeting of the Television Critics Association that the project is under development and an agreement is near. She didn’t provide details.
Mayer and CBS have worked together before. In 2006, he made a cameo appearance on “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” performing songs for a scene set in a Las Vegas network.
Mayer, whose current hit is “Say,” might also appear on next month’s Grammy Awards on CBS: He’s up for five prizes. He took the best pop vocal album Grammy in 2007 for “Continuum.”
