Senior citizens banquet planned by lodge, temple

YOUNGSTOWN — The public is invited to be the guests of Buckeye Lodge 73 and Naomi Temple 124 at the 54th Annual Senior Citizens Banquet, set for 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Buckeye Elks Youth Center, 4211‚Ñ2 North Ave.

Girard FIRST Robotics plans auction, races night

GIRARD — Girard FIRST Robotics will have a Chinese auction and Night at the Races on Saturday at the American Legion, 11 High St.

The Chinese auction will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. and is open for the public to stop in and bid on the baskets. A bake sale will also be featured at that time.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the Night at the Races, and the first race will begin at 7. Adults 21 and older are welcome. Admission is free and includes food. Beverages also will be available.

Students in the FIRST Robotics program work throughout the year to promote their team and FIRST Robotics, as well as design and build prototypes for the competition robot. This year, the team will compete in Cleveland; Pittsburgh; and Annapolis, Md.

Family Fun Day set at Unity Church Centre

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP — A Family Fun Day has been scheduled from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Unity Church Centre, 1226 Naylor-Lloyd Road, by the Youth and Women of Unity.

During the day, there will be a light lunch of homemade soups, breads and dessert, featured films will be shown at 1, 4 and 7, and other activities will include the construction of treasure maps and vision boards.

Deadline announced for scholarship applicants

YOUNGSTOWN — Aspiring artists, musicians, dancers and other students of Polish descent have until Saturday to apply for scholarships being offered by the Polish Arts Club of Youngstown.

Free Quickstep lessons available at center

YOUNGSTOWN — USA Dance will meet Sunday at the Orthodox Center, 1025 N. Belle Vista Ave.

The evening will begin with free tutoring for beginners and basics at 5 p.m. followed at 5:30 by a free Quickstep lesson conducted by Dustin Jones of the Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Boardman.

Afterward there will be a regular evening of ballroom, Latin, swing and hustle dancing from 6:15 to 9 p.m. These dances are open to the public, with or without partners. Admission is $5 for USA Dance members, $10 for nonmembers and $2.50 for students.

Free program to offer information on wounds

BOARDMAN — Ankle & Foot Care Centers and Signature Health Services will host a free program titled “Wounds: How to Prevent Them, How to Treat Them & How to Keep Them From Coming Back,” from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at St. Charles Church, Westview Drive at Route 422.

This community and professional educational session is being presented by Dr. Joseph J. Francisco Jr.

Light refreshments will be served, and the session is approved for 1.3 hours of continuing education for nurses.

Autograph signing benefits food bank

AUSTINTOWN — Jeff Reed, a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers Football Team, will sign autographs from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Lucianno’s, 1739 S. Raccoon Road.

The event is planned as a fundraiser to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank.

Tickets for the signing will be available from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday at Lucianno’s. Each autograph will cost $40 with $5 of each sale going to the food bank.

Take a canned food item when purchasing a ticket and be eligible for a chance to win a limo ride with Reed.
