Acquittal in aggravated murder case
YOUNGSTOWN — After deliberating 2 1/2 hours, a jury has acquitted Dion D. Weatherspoon in the July 8, 2007, shooting death of William Burr.
The seven-woman, five-man jury presented its verdict this afternoon to Judge Maureen A. Sweeney of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court, who presided over the trial.
In the trial that began Monday afternoon, Weatherspoon, 20, of Hilton Avenue, was acquitted of aggravated murder and of the lesser included charge of murder.
Burr, 27, of East Midlothian Boulevard, Struthers, was fatally shot as he sat in his car outside Angelo’s Pizza Shop, 3215 South Ave.
