Weathersfield clerk to resign

Trustees will accept applications for the post through Tuesday.
MINERAL RIDGE — Weathersfield Township clerk David Rouan plans to resign by Feb. 2 because he has been appointed director of administration and government offices under Trumbull County’s new engineer David DeChristofaro.
Rouan was appointed township clerk or fiscal officer in April 1990 and was first elected to a four-year term in November 1992. He has served as clerk for 19 years.
Rouan announced his intentions to township trustees at Tuesday’s meeting, saying he is resigning from the $21,000-a-year part-time job “very reluctantly.”
“It has been an absolute pleasure serving the residents of Weathersfield Township,” he said. But staying while performing his other duties at the county would have been a disservice to taxpayers, he said.
Rouan previously served as township zoning inspector and was assistant to clerk James Pirko before trustees appointed him to the post when Pirko retired in 1990.
Trustees will accept applications for Rouan’s position until 4 p.m. Tuesday. Applicants must be 18, a registered voter and a U.S. citizen.
Fiscal officers do not take the post until April, by state law, and the new appointee will have to seek election to Rouhan’s four-year post in November.
Rouan has served one year in his new term.
The state of Ohio conducts various training sessions for township clerks throughout the year and in different locations.
Trustees elected James E. Stoddard chairman at their reorganizational meeting and William Miller, vice chairman.
