International Institute Foundation accepting grant applications for 2009

YOUNGSTOWN — The International Institute Foundation is accepting grant applications for its 2009 grant cycle.

Applicants must be an IRS 501(c)(3) tax exempt, nonprofit organization located in the Youngstown area whose mission parallels that of the International Institute Foundation.

Applicants must meet specific guidelines set forth on the application as well as provide a proposed budget.

The foundation was formed in 1985 after the reorganization of the International Institute of Youngstown Inc. Foundation guidelines state that grant applicants must submit a request for funding a project which promotes the needs of and interest in understanding of the foreign-born; preserving and encouraging the development of values and culture of the local ethnic communities through education, social service or arts programs; and/or promotion of English as a second language to the foreign-born. Most grants are for partial funding of a project.

Eligible applicants may call Kathleen Brown at Butler Wick Trust Co., at (330) 599-4747 or e-mail her at brownk@butlerwick.com to request an application. The deadline for submission of applications is Feb. 19. Grant recipients will be notified at the end of February.

Previous grant recipients only will be considered for funding this year if the appropriate end-of-year materials were submitted by Dec. 31, 2008.
