Columbiana commissioners file suit over leaking courthouse roof
LISBON — The Columbiana County commissioners have filed a lawsuit to force companies to make repairs to its municipal courthouse.
The lawsuit was filed against Vendrick Construction Inc. of Brookfield, and Metal Worx Systems Inc. and Hartford Casualty Insurance Co., both of Columbus.
Commissioner James Hoppel said today the damage was not extensive.
But the lawsuit claims, “Vendrick installed the roof system in 2004, but the roof began to leak immediately after installation.”
The $3.7 million building was constructed at 38832 Saltwell Road. It opened in 2005.
The building’s construction cost is being paid with court fees.
Vendrick and Metal Worx, which made the roof system that consists of mental panels and seals, also tried to fix the leaks, according to the lawsuit.
The suit said Hartford Insurance has not approved the county’s claim for damages.
