Wine event will offer a taste of elegance

GIRARD — The third annual “Taste of Elegance,” a celebration of winter with a winter wine tasting, will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 15 in Rosetta Hall at St. Rose Church, 48 E. Main St.

The cost is $45 per person, and the event is limited to 120 tickets, which are available at the rectory.

Finger foods and wine tasting will be catered by Alberini’s Restaurant. Semiformal attire is required.

Alzheimer’s Association plans dance at Kuzman’s

GIRARD — “A Dance to Remember” is the theme chosen for a night of dancing from 7 to 11:30 p.m. Feb. 12 at Kuzman’s, 1025 S. State St.

Music will be provided by the band Savoy, and there will be a special appearance by disc jockey Carl Severino. During breaks, Stephen Barba will play ballroom dance tunes.

Proceeds will benefit the Greater East Ohio Area Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association and will fund research leading to new strategies for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of the disease.

Meetings scheduled by library volunteers

Friends of the Library have scheduled the following meetings: Poland at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 3; Boardman at 10 a.m. Feb. 9 for a program on “A Civil War Soldier” by Steffon Jones; and Austintown at 10 a.m. Feb. 16 for a book discussion on “Steeltown U.S.A: Work and Memory in Youngstown” by the authors, Sherry Lee Linkon, professor of English and American Studies at Youngstown State University, and John Russo, coordinator of the labor studies program in the Williamson College of Business Administration at YSU.

Benefit sock hop

AUSTINTOWN — Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Center, 4500 Norquest Blvd., will be the setting from 7 to 11 p.m. Feb. 7 for a sock hop to benefit the Sullivan family, members of the parish who were seriously injured in a car accident last fall.

The cost for the BYOB evening is $10 per person and includes pizza, wings, chips and mixes. There will be a 50-50 raffle, a Chinese auction and a contest for the best dressed.

Chili cook-off Saturday

HUBBARD — Hubbard Environmental and Land Preservation (HELP) will host its fourth annual Chili Winterfest Cook-off from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Church Hall, 367 N. Main St.

More than 20 cooks will be participating in this year’s event.

Admission is $5 at the door, and votes for the best chili will be $1 each.

Available for children will be a “HELPy” meal of hot dog, beverage and sundae for $2.

Several gift baskets will be raffled during the evening, and there will be a 50-50 drawing. Proceeds will benefit the legal defense fund.
