Road named after elementary school principal

Special to The Vindicator

McDONALD — The McDonald school board named the access road alongside Roosevelt Elementary School Tony Russo Lane, after the building’s principal.

Russo has been with the district for 31 years, 11 years as a teacher and 20 years as principal. The road runs off Sixth Street in front of the school to Seventh Street to allow parents access to the school building to drop off or pick up pupils.

The board recognized the efforts of the volunteers who remodeled the old girls physical education locker room in the gymnasium at no cost to the board and turned it into the girls basketball team locker room.

Doing the work were: Rick and Patti Sickle and Amy and Clester Dean, parents of players; Jack Swedko of Lowes, in Warren, which donated the carpet; Dan Rebracca and Tony Vario, who donated padding and labor from Carpet Tech; George Thomas, Girard Hardware; and Jeff McElhaney and Dave Spencer, who donated building materials.

Board member Jeffrey Hughes told the board the McDonald Almuni’s Blue Pride committee will meet at 7 p.m. next Tuesday at the high school, and future meetings will be on Sundays, starting Feb. 8.
