Salem group to meet
SALEM — The Salem Patriotic & Memorial Association will conduct a meeting at AMVETS Post 45, 750 S. Broadway St., on Monday at 7 p.m.
The agenda includes discussion of fundraising and distribution of the 50/50 raffle tickets for the Salem 4th of July fireworks event. All veterans groups are required to have at least one representative attend. Membership is available, and the meeting is open to the public.

On inaugural committee
WASHINGTON — Air Force Maj. Maureen Schumann, a 1989 graduate of Villa Maria High School, Villa Maria, Pa., is a member of the Armed Forces Inaugural Committee, which is preparing to support the 56th Presidential Inauguration on Jan. 20.
AFIC, a joint service committee charged with coordinating all military ceremonial support for the inaugural period, includes members from all branches of the armed forces.
Schumann, an 11-year veteran, comes to AFIC from the Secretary of the Air Force legislative liaison office at the Pentagon. With AFIC, she is responsible for planning, coordinating and supervising all media operations efforts, including media outreach, community relations, and public inquiry, as well as serving as the primary public affairs liaison with the Presidential Inaugural Committee.
DEPLOYED
Helping in Afghanistan
Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Jayson M. Yanni has been deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Yanni, a provincial reconstruction team petty officer with six years of military service, is the son of Mike L. and Barb A. Yanni of East Liverpool. He is a 1998 graduate of East Liverpool High School.
Operation Iraqi Freedom
Army National Guard Sgt. Gordon J. Turnovsky has been mobilized and activated for deployment overseas to a forward operating base in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Turnovsky, a food service sergeant with 18 years of military service, is regularly assigned to the 267th Military Police Company, Dickson, Tenn. He is the son of Doris E. Turnovsky of Poland.
BASIC TRAINING
Army: Pfc. Christopher M. Thrasher (Pine-Richland High School, Gibsonia, Pa., ’06), son of retired Army Maj. Traci Thrasher of Mars, Pa., and grandson of Robert and Carol Selnekovic of Hermitage, Pa.
Marine Corps: Pfc. Ian F. Digney (Jefferson Area Local High School, Jefferson, ’07); Pfc. Joseph M. Percy (Salem High School, ’08), son of Julie Burns of Salem, and Jeffery Percy of Sebring.
