Super Senior: Corradetti’s 1356 corrals Senior Singles crown


YOUNGSTOWN — Tony Corradetti Sr. rolled 1356 to win the Super Senior Division (75-older) of the 11th Youngstown Senior Singles Tournament.

Ninety-two bowlers competed in five divisions at Amron Lanes and Boardman Lanes.

Super Senior runner-up was Peter Nagy with 1306, followed by Dave Hall’s 1287.

Andy Huff’s 1383 earned him top finish in the 70- to 74-year division, while runner-up Joe Pollifrone had 1364. Third-place went to Bob Balog (1362), while Rich Gulu was fourth with 1353 and Chuck Wolfe fifth with 1333.

Winning the 65-69 division was Tom Robinson with 1443, followed by Tom Timlin Sr. (1406), Vern Blazek (1392), Chuck Slaven (1387), Dave Burrell (1376) and Paul Scheetz (1356).

Delbert Fry was best among the 60- to 64-aged bowlers with 1420, beating out Bob Sinkovich (1356). Third- and fourth-places were John Bullock (1289) and Wilbur Coblentz (1289).

Doug Zolla beat out Joe Corbi, 1485-1453, to win the 55-59 age group, while, John Larson was third with 1416 and Keith Gibson fourth with 1408.

The next senior event will be the John Bossone Memorial Senior Masters Tournament, Feb 7-8, 14-15 at Mahoning Valley Lanes, McKinley Lanes, Wedgewood Lanes and Holiday.

Dan Guerrieri had high series of 806 in Hively’s Doubles at Amron and Teri Haefke had 300 to cap off a four-game 1007 series in Wedgewood Ladies Trio on Jan. 6.

Before rolling the perfect game, Haefke’s first three games were 235, 227 and 235.

Andrea Lucente also rolled 300, in Wednesday Nite Ladies at Wedgewood.

Sixty-nine-year-old Don Kane rolled 289-279-231—799 in Donatelli Seniors at Boardman. Kane carries a 214 average.

Rob Alexander picked up the 7-10 split in Kelley-Robb Funeral Home Classic at Bell-Wick.

The Youngstown-Salem USBC Women’s Bowling Association will hold its seventh “Strike Out Cancer” benefit tournament in February.

The tournament will be a 9-pin, no-tap scotch doubles event at Bell-Wick Bowl, Feb. 6-8.

Businesses may sponsor a lane for $100, donate a prize item for a silent auction or enter a team.

Money raised will be donated to several local cancer care charities.

Cost is $20 per couple (two women, two men, mixed couples, Jr.-Adult).

Even non-bowlers could be nice guys, including someone like Bob Camuso. His unsolicited snow-blowing effort of my driveway on Saturday morning was really appreciated. Too bad he’s a Browns fan.
