Last-second 3-pointer lifts ’Devils in tourney


LEXINGTON, Ky. — Campbell’s Germaine Somrajit hit a game-winning 3-pointer with four seconds left as the Red Devils beat Dallas God’s Academy 75-73 in a boys basketball game Saturday in the Dunkin Donuts Shootout.

Somrajit finished with 11 points for Campbell (5-3), which made 21-of-26 from the line to clinch the win against the Texas prep school.

“It was a great team win,” said Red Devils coach Brian Danilov. “We shot well, we outrebounded them and the kids played really hard.”

Junior Nate Hodge scored 27 points and grabbed six rebounds for the Red Devils, who outrebounded Academy 32-27. Campbell also made 22 of 47 from the field and took a 64-55 lead entering the fourth quarter.

Lester Hughes scored 12 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out three assists.

Jerah’me Williams and 10 points and four assists, while Dorian Jones had 11 points, eight rebounds and four assists in the win.

Academy (17-4), which has four Division I recruits, got just 12 points from 6-3 senior point guard KC Ross Miller, who is headed to the University of Kentucky. Richard Armardi and Titus Rubbles each had 18 points and Kevin Smith had 13.

“A lot of people in Kentucky were joking about how the Red Devils beat God’s Academy,” Danilov said, chuckling.
