YOUNGSTOWN — The annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Diversity Breakfast will be at 8 a.m. Jan. 22 in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center at Youngstown State University. The keynote speaker is the Rev. Dr. Otis Moss Jr., one of the nation’s influential religious leaders. He retired Dec. 31 as pastor of Olivet Institutional Baptist Church in Cleveland. Cultural alliance event
BOARDMAN — Ophthal-mologist Dr. Kong Oh will share how his faith in Baha’i and his Malaysian Chinese ethnicity have helped to frame his life when the Ohio Cultural Alliance meets at 6 p.m. Monday at Mr. Anthony’s Banquet Center, 7440 South Ave. Entertainment will be provided by “The Lion Dancers,” led by Mark Lee Pringle. Cost is $13 for members, $18 for nonmembers. Those attending are asked to bring canned or boxed food (especially for children) to donate to the Rescue Mission, which is in urgent need of assistance.
MLK luncheon at VFW
YOUNGSTOWN — The Rev. Lewis Macklin, pastor of Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, is keynote speaker for the annual Martin Luther King Jr. luncheon sponsored by VFW Post 6488 and its Ladies Auxiliary. The luncheon is at 1 p.m. Jan. 24 at the post home at 2065 Coitsville-Hubbard Road. U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Niles, D-17th, is also expected to speak about President-elect Barack Obama’s inauguration ceremony, said Post 6488 spokesman Herman Adams.
