WASHINGTON — Steve Mason made 45 saves for the sixth shutout of his rookie season and the injury-depleted Columbus Blue Jackets beat Washington, ending the Capitals’ winning streak at seven. R.J. Umberger, Fedor Tyutin and Jared Boll scored, and Manny Maholtra had two assists for the Blue Jackets, playing without eight regulars, including leading scorers Rick Nash and Kristian Huselius. Nash, selected Wednesday to the Western Conference All-Star team, has a lower-body injury, while Huselius is out with concussion. The Blue Jackets, wrapping up a six-game trip, ended Washington’s home winning streak at nine, dropping the Capitals to 18-2-1 at Verizon Center.

Sabres 2, Rangers 1, SO

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Ryan Miller made 43 saves and turned aside three shootout attempts, and Ales Kotalik had the lone goal in the tiebeaker for Buffalo. Derek Roy scored in regulation to help Buffalo win its fourth straight game. Kotalik’s wrister blew past Rangers backup goalie Steve Valiquette in the first round of the shootout. Miller ended the game by stopping former Buffalo star Chris Drury’s attempt in the third round. Paul Mara scored in regulation for New York.
