Mooney cruises past East; Youngstown Christian rolls


YOUNGSTOWN — Ronnie Martino scored 21 points Friday to lead the Mooney High boys basketball team to a 58-44 victory over East.

Martino also made four rebounds, five steals and two assists for the Cardinals (4-3, 1-0 Steel Valley Conference).

Jeff Chahine contributed 11 points, a rebound and a steal.

For the Panthers (2-6, 0-1), Kenny Carter scored 20 points and had seven rebounds and three assists.

Youngstown Christian 94, Chaney 70

YOUNGSTOWN — Olonzo Johnson poured in 28 points and grabbed seven rebounds to spark Youngstown Christian (9-1), which outscored Chaney in the third period 31-15 to blow the game open at the Eagles’ gym.

Anthony Walker and Caleb Yanno added 13 points, with Yanno hitting three 3-point goals, to aid the winners, while John Pecchia tacked on 12 points plus 12 assists.

Ken Strong netted 21 points and Mike Parker 14 for Chaney (1-8)

Canton GlenOak 101, Fitch 66

CANTON — C.J. McCollum fired in 27 points, including four 3-point goals, to spark GlenOak (8-0, 3-0 Federal).

DeAndre Richardson had 15 points to lead Fitch (2-7, 0-4 FL), while John Williams added 13, including three 3-point goals; William Mahon 12, Eric Braxton 11 and Terry Terrigno 10.

Marlington 53, West Branch 38

BELOIT — The Dukes’ (5-4, 4-3) stingy defense limited the Warriors (2-7, 0-7) to seven points in the first quarter, nine in the third and six in the fourth of the Northeastern Buckeye Conference game.

Kyle Lepley scored 19 points for Marlington and Brandon McDonald added 13. Evan Campbell led West Branch with 16 points.

Norton 50, Southeast 48

RAVENNA — Norton (2-5, 2-3) rallied in the fourth quarter as it outscored the Pirates (0-8, 0-5) 15-12 for the Portage Trail Conference victory.

Travis Smith led Southeast with 10 points.

Kennedy Catholic 53, Lakeview 22

HERMITAGE, PA — The Golden Eagles’ defense kept the Sailors (6-6) under 10 points each of the four quarters in cruising to their ninth win in 11 starts.

Kyle Randall scored 14 points and he had six assists and five steals. Aundra Jones added 10 points and pulled down 14 rebounds. Dylan Bertin led the Sailors with 11 points.

Hickory 57, Grove City 51

GROVE CITY, Pa. — Jordan Wilds and Matt Durisko led the Hornets (10-1) with 19 and 18 points, respectively.

Kyle Perrine paced Grove City with 17 points, Jon Anderson netted 13.
