New Castle changes its recycling collection schedule

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Mayor Anthony Mastrangelo announced a new recycling schedule for city residents will go into effect next week.

Under the new schedule, he said recyclables will be collected once a month, on Fridays, rather than twice a month.

If there are five Fridays in a month, there will be no recyclables picked up on the fifth Friday.

The mayor said the change was made because of increased costs and because the refuse department is short-handed. By switching to Fridays, the city can have two trucks collecting recyclables, he noted.

Recyclables will be collected on Fridays according to this schedule:

• If your garbage is collected on Mondays, recycling will be the first Friday.

• If your garbage is collected on Tuesdays, recycling will be the second Friday.

• If your garbage is collected on Wednesday, recycling will be the third Friday.

• If your garbage is collected on Thursday, recycling will be the fourth Friday.
