Missing woman sought
YOUNGSTOWN — Help is needed to locate 22-year-old Amesha Lewis, a new mother who went missing from her home at 332 E. Florida Ave. around 4 a.m. Dec. 7 after getting into an argument with her live-in boyfriend.
He thought she was just leaving the residence to calm down and would return. Lewis had given birth three weeks before leaving home and could be suffering from postpartum depression and could be off her medication, police said. She left the baby with her boyfriend, said Capt. Kenneth Centorame, chief of detectives.
Lewis is black, 5 feet 6 inches and 140 pounds. She was last seen wearing black jogging pants, black coat, brown boots, black skull cap and brown hoodie. She left on foot with only a few personal items, Centorame said. She has been spotted in the area of Glenwood Avenue and Canfield Road.
Lewis is originally from The Bronx, N.Y., and has no relatives in this area. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Sgt. Ron Rodway at (330) 742-8251.
Welcoming soldiers
YOUNGSTOWN — The public is invited to a welcome-home ceremony for 50 soldiers from the Ohio Army National Guard’s 583rd Military Police Detachment at 5 p.m. Saturday in Crossroads Church, 554 S. Meridian Road.
The 583rd includes soldiers from throughout the state. The unit is returning home from a 12-month deployment to Victory Base near Baghdad, Iraq, where they provided law-and-order support. Victory Base is the largest military installation in Iraq, according to the Ohio National Guard. The troops will be greeted at the ceremony by Major Gen. Gregory L. Wayt, Ohio’s adjutant general.
Being deployed to Asia
VIENNA — About 85 Air Force Reservists from the 910th Airlift Wing are scheduled to deploy Friday morning to Southwest Asia for up to 120 days in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
The reservists are air crew and aircraft maintenance personnel assigned to the 910th at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station. When deployed, they will be assigned to the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing. The last major airlift deployment was July 2005.
The primary mission of the 910th Airlift Wing is to deliver personnel and cargo by airdrop and air land techniques.
Police arrest 2 from Pa.
LIBERTY — Township police arrested a man and woman from Pennsylvania after finding drugs, cash and a BB gun in a room at the Days Inn here.
Township officers, along with the Pennsylvania State Police, served a warrant for aggravated robbery on Walter Tribble, 34, of Slippery Rock, at the hotel. In the room police found a black repeater BB pistol, a knit stocking cap and $1,415.
Reports say Tribble is suspected in a string of armed robberies in western Pennsylvania.
Officers also found two hypodermic needles on a night stand and another syringe and unidentified pills in a purse belonging to Nicole Buzzelli, 30, of Butler, Pa. She was charged with misdemeanor possession of drug abuse instruments and possession of dangerous drugs.
Free parenting program
WARREN — For the second year, Homes For Kids, Valley Counseling Services Inc. and TCAP Head Start have teamed up to provide the Incredible Years parenting program and children’s social skills building program for children age 4 to 6 free to families in Trumbull County. The program will start Jan. 16 at TCAP, Warren West, 1230 Palmyra Road S.W. To participate, call Joy at Homes For Kids by Friday at (330) 544-8005.
The Incredible Years Program is a 12-week, award-winning program designed to decrease children’s disruptive behaviors, peer aggression and noncompliance with parents at home.
The goals are to increase children’s social skills, understanding of feelings, conflict management skills and school readiness. It is free because of a grant from the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Trumbull LifeLines.
