MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Jeff Adrien scored 17 points to lead Connecticut. Hasheem Thabeet added 13 points and 13 rebounds for Connecticut (13-1, 2-1 Big East). With the victory, Huskies coach Jim Calhoun moved past Lefty Driesell into seventh place on the NCAA career wins list with 787. Neither team led by more than four points until Thabeet’s inside basket put the Huskies ahead 52-47 with six minutes left. West Virginia was outrebounded 52-33 and managed just three field goals over the final eight minutes. Da’Sean Butler and Alex Ruoff scored 13 apiece for West Virginia (11-3, 1-1), which saw its five-game winning streak snapped and lost for the first time at home this season.

No. 18 Villanova 89, Seton Hall 85, OT

NEWARK, N.J. — Scottie Reynolds matched his career high with 40 points and Villanova made its last 18 free throws to beat Seton Hall. Reynolds, who was 15-of-16 from the line, made two free throws with 21 seconds left in regulation to give the Wildcats (13-3, 1-1 Big East) a 76-73 lead. Jeremy Hazell, who scored 23 points in the game’s first 24 1/2 minutes, banked in a shot from about 26 feet with 9.2 seconds left to tie it. Reynolds missed a driving shot as time expired. Dante Cunningham gave Villanova the lead for good at 85-83 with two free throws with 58 seconds left. Reynolds, who had 40 points as a freshman against Connecticut, then sandwiched four free throws around two by Eugene Harvey of the Pirates (9-6, 0-3) for the final margin.

TAMPA, Fla. — Maya Moore scored 24 points and Tina Charles had 17 points and 12 rebounds Tuesday night, leading top-ranked Connecticut in the Huskies’ Big East opener. UConn (14-0, 1-0) has opened the season with at least 14 straight wins for the second straight year and the eighth time since 1994-95.

No. 10 Louisville 76, Seton Hall 47

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Angel McCoughtry had 28 points and 13 rebounds to lead Louisville. The win was the Cardinals’ 10th in a row and kept Louisville (15-1, 2-0 Big East Conference) perfect in the conference heading into their matchup with No. 17 Rutgers on Sunday.

Syracuse 68, No. 17 Rutgers 54

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Nicole Michael had 15 points and 14 rebounds, Erica Morrow scored 17 points, and Syracuse upset Rutgers. Rutgers (8-4, 0-1 Big East) was coming off a disheartening 55-51 home loss on Saturday to Tennessee, a game in which the Scarlet Knights blew a 33-13 halftime lead.

STILLWATER, Okla. — Andrea Riley scored 31 points to lead Oklahoma Stat. It was the Cowgirls’ 32nd consecutive win at home against a non-conference opponent.

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — Rachele Fitz had 26 points, 16 rebounds, and six assists to help Marist win its 10th straight game.
