Softball team’s effort is onesies for the record
YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown State softball team continued its dedication to community outreach and service over the holiday season by donating 300 onesies to two Youngstown-area hospitals for distribution to new parents of baby girls.
The pink outfits, displaying YSU’s mascot and the words “Penguins Softball,” were dropped off by the YSU coaching staff, players and administrators at the Childbirth Center at Northside Medical Center and to Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital of The Humility of Mary Health Partners.
“We feel it is important to give back to our community and reach out to its citizens,” Coach Brian Campbell said. “Donating these outfits for the newest additions of our community is a way of letting the people of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley we truly appreciate their support.”
The team also completed the “Ring the Bell” community service project to help raise money for The Salvation Army, visited the Park Vista Retirement Home and carved pumpkins and hosted a Halloween and costume party.
