YOUNGSTOWN — The Eagles built a 46-33 lead heading into the fourth quarter, then held on for the victory. Olonzo Johnson poured in 30 points for the Eagles (7-1). John Pecchia chipped in with 10. Ronnie Martino led the Cardinals (3-3) with 21 points. Jeff Chahine added 13. Donald Dalesio pulled down eight rebounds and he had three assists and four steals.
Akron Garfield 84, Chaney 69
YOUNGSTOWN — Led by Earile Ferguson’s 18 points, Garfield (6-2) had four players in doubles figures as the visitors hit 33 of 68 goals. Chaney (1-7) slipped during a seven-point second quarter, but battled back before the futile outcome. Junior Carlos Colon came off the bench in the fourth quarter to score 16 points with a boost from four 3-pointers. Ken Strong, also a junior, had 11 of his 14 points in the second half, while senior Mike Parker had 13 points and eight rebounds. All of Parker’s points came in the second half.
Salem 61, Newton Falls 44
SALEM — The Quakers (5-2) snapped a two-game losing streak in handing the Tigers (9-1) their first loss of the season. Chris Brown, Jordon Strabala and Trent Kenreigh scored 14, 13 and 11 points respectively for Salem. Phil Bennett grabbed 11 rebounds. Marcus Fowler led Newton Falls with 20 points and seven rebounds.
Niles 58, Girard 46
GIRARD — Niles jumped out to a 16-8 lead in the first quarter and it was out in front 32-19 at intermission. The Red Dragons’ (3-5) balanced attack was paced by Joe Moss with 15 points. Ryan Frantz added 13, Saul Vaughn 12 and David Allen 11. Joe Augustine scored a game-high 20 points for the Indians (1-8).
Campbell 76, Liberty 59
LIBERTY — Jerah’me Williams scored 20 points and the Red Devils outscored Liberty 21-11 in the fourth quarter. Dorian Jones added 14 points, Nate Hodge had 13 and Lester Hughes scored 10 for Campbell (4-3). T’Shaun Letlow had 18 points and Anthony Cleveland added 17 for Liberty (3-5).
Western Reserve 64, Jackson-Milton 63
BERLIN CENTER — Trailing 63-61 in the closing seconds, Western Reserve’s Justin Lude drove left and banked in a four-footer while being fouled. Lude made the free throw and Jackson-Milton’s Cory Bartek missed a 3-pointer as time expired as the Bluejays narrowly missed their first victory in two years. Justin Lude had 22 points and nine rebounds to lead Reserve (4-3, 2-2 ITCL2), while Ben Carlisle had 29 points for the Bluejays (0-7, 0-3).
East Palestine 58, Springfield 52
NEW MIDDLETOWN — The Bulldogs (7-2) remained unbeaten (4-0) in Inter-Tri-County League Tier One, while Springfield (3-4, 2-2) fell. Austin Cope, Braxton Mascher and Ben Gysin, who grabbed 14 rebounds, scored 16, 15, 14 points respectively for East Palestine. Jimmy Zubic led the Tigers with 18 points and four assists. Todd Kibby, who pulled down five rebounds, finished with 12 points.
Columbiana 76, South Range 48
COLUMBIANA — Kevin Blinsky scored 29 points — 20 in the second half — and added four assists and four steals to lead the Clippers (5-2, 3-1 ITCL 1), who took a 38-18 halftime lead. Travis Denmeade added 15 points and Trenton Hatherill had 10. Jack Dawson and Kyle Seaver each had 12 points for the Raiders (2-5, 1-3) and Alex Baker had 10. South Range made just 4 of 18 from the line.
Mineral Ridge 72, Crestview 65, OT
MINERAL RIDGE — Justin Lasher scored 25 points and Cody Graham added 21 for Mineral Ridge, which outscored Crestview 14-7 in overtime for its first win of the season. Zack Kiger added 16 points for the Rams (1-6, 1-3), who blew a seven-point lead after three quarters before winning in the extra period. Jakob Leon scored 17 points, Carter Hill had 14, Greg Bing scored 12 and Adam Coppock added 11 for the Rebels (5-4, 2-2).
Reynolds 77, Kennedy Catholic 69
GREENVILLE, Pa. — Kyle Randall, a 6-0, senior guard, scored a career-high 36 points in a losing cause for the Golden Eagles (8-2). He also had five assists. Phil Kaikas chipped in with 13 points and he had three steals. Aundra Jones grabbed seven rebounds. Russ Conley led the unbeaten Raiders (9-0) with a game-high 20 points.
